DJI Air 3S almost official with larger battery also spotted in new pre-launch leak
DJI's next Air series drone is now more or less official, although the company has not publicly discussed replacing the Air 2S or Air 3 just yet. Instead, the drone has been spotted on the Federal Communication Commission's (FCC) public database. While an FCC certification is not always a guarantee that a device will be released, it has been for DJI's products in recent years.
To recap, the company released a 135 g drone called the Neo (curr. $199 on Amazon) about two weeks ago. Incidentally, it seems that DJI may be planning a first-person view (FPV) related refresh of its latest tiny drone, full details of which we have covered separately. By contrast, the FCC's certification focuses on the Air 3S, evidence of which we have embedded below. Unusually, the FCC actually names the drone before its official release.
Additionally, the regulatory body reveals that DJI will pair the drone with a new battery that has a 4,276 mAh (62.5 Wh) capacity. In other words, the Air 3S will ship with a larger battery than the Air 3; a 25 mAh capacity uplift is unlikely to improve battery life between the two drones, though. According to recent rumours, DJI may be planning to showcase a few camera upgrades with its next Air drone like a new 1-inch type camera sensor. Currently, DJI is expected to unveil the Air 3S in late September or early October.
