CheckMag
In February 4's double feature, Capcom showcased juicy (and gory!) new details in the Monster Hunter Showcase, which premiered following the Capcom Spotlight. A brand new spectacular locale was shown alongside details for the upcoming beta, expected later this week.Sasha (Tristan) Mathews 👁 Published 🇫🇷 🇪🇸 ...
Capcom showed off plenty of Monster Hunter Wilds footage today after airing Capcom Spotlight, from admittedly gory newcomers, to a look at the new locale, there's tons to talk about from the showcase.
Monster Hunter Wilds debuts monsters, locale
At the top of the showcase, long time producer of the series Ryozo Tsujimoto greeted players reiterating that we're finally in February, with the release of Wilds finally coming at the end of it. He then went on to show off a new trailer, which started with ominous music. A mysterious glow has appeared in camp, with our comrades asking what it might be. They then cut to a new monster reveal: The Hirabami.
These millipede-like creatures can trap the hunter in ice, and seemingly travel in packs. The trailer shows the hunter and their group ambushed by them in a cutscene as three of them encircle the hunter. (I must say, these things give me the creeps!)
Speaking of the creeps, every arachnophobe's favorite monster is back in action in the form of Nerscylla. This monster is in my honest opinion terrifying, even for a regular monster you could find in your average quest. This spider can swing from its webs, burrow underground to try to sting to poison hunters from below, and ensnare you in its webs. This creepy crawler was introduced back in Monster Hunter 4, and Capcom was not holding back with this monster. You can even see it ensnare an entire monster in a turf war in the trailer as shown here:
More story is revealed in the trailer after a calm period of hunters chatting next to a campfire and a view of what might be part of the village is shown, where the little boy Nata is heard lamenting, confused on why the Arkveld attacked, showing a unique perspective that the monster may have been provoked rather than showing raw aggression.
After this we are shown cinematic in-game clips of the player fighting the Arkveld in different environments, before showcasing a turf war of huge proportion between the Arkveld and a Rey Dau.
The intense turf war quickly wraps up as Nata notes that Arkveld is seemingly absorbing energy. The group then runs as red lightning, and what seems to be dragon element envelops the Arkveld. The trailer then seems to end, showing the title of the game again, but not before showing one last scene. The title disappears as the final scene shows a group of four weary hunters wielding the Lance weapon getting ambushed by a returning foe.
The Gore Magala.
New Beta information
Producer Ryozo Tsujimoto is shown again, briefly talking about the new location before moving on to talk about the previously confirmed beta, with dates from the 6th of February to the 9th for the first period and from the 13th to the 16th for the second. Both will have the same content, including the content from the previous beta where players can make a character, experience a story trial and go on a Doshaguma hunt. The new content however, is twofold, both the flagship monster Arkveld and the previously shown Gypceros are included, with the former headlining an advanced hunt for those experienced (or daring) enough to fight it.
Sadly, no content from the beta will be saved besides character creation, and while the developers took feedback from the previous beta into account, they stated that these changes won't be reflected until the full release. Still, I look forward to the terrifying new hunt of the Arkveld.
