Many people who play video games may know of the idle genre, to some, an arguably mindless genre full of point and click games, to others, fun relaxing distractions that they pay little attention to as they go about their day to day. These games progress whether or not you're not playing them, even if they aren't even open.
Lasting a week, Steam has launched "Idler Fest" with a multitude of different sales. As usual, some games are popular and some niche. Players can enjoy sales of up to 75% and many of these games are already very cheap.
Synonymous to the idle genre, Cookie Clicker (not the web version, the ultimate Steam release from 2021) is here and is 66% off. Plenty of players spent hours upon hours completing every last achievement back when this released in 2013. However, the idle genre has come very far in this day and age, and some even have more active game mechanics. The Longing takes the idle experience and flips it on its head, expecting that players wait a whole 400 days to wait for the awakening of the king. Reviews sit at Very Positive with some saying the concept is unique, but falls flat due to not enough to do. Still, it sits at 25% off on Steam if readers want to give the unusual game a try.
As usual in Steam fests like these, a whole slew of demos are here. Chonkers is a cute game about fat cats, where you adopt cats and as you feed and care for them, your cats get fatter and fatter until you give them away to a loving family (who will pay you extravagantly for your fat furball). There are plenty more to select from, and players can enjoy them from now until February 10th.
