The Steam Real-Time Strategy Fest is in full swing and runs until January 27. As part of the event, a multiplayer demo for an upcoming strategy game has been released, offering an exciting opportunity for fans of the genre to get an early taste of what’s to come. It’s a must-try for RTS enthusiasts!

Tempest Rising, developed by Slipgate Ironworks™ in partnership with publishers 3D Realms and Knights Peak, is set to launch on Steam on April 24, 2025. Widely regarded by the community as a spiritual successor to the Command & Conquer series, the game seeks to revive the classic real-time strategy experience. Originally launched by Electronic Arts in 1995, Command & Conquer is considered a cornerstone of the RTS genre. While the Command & Conquer Remastered Collection, released in June 2020, was a hit among fans, EA has struggled to deliver a meaningful continuation of the series in recent years. Tempest Rising now aims to fill that void and reignite the passion of RTS enthusiasts.

Classic real-time strategy in a modern guise

Much like Command & Conquer, the story of Tempest Rising centers around a precious resource (Tempest vines instead of Tiberium) fueling the conflict between two opposing factions. Players can command the forces of the Global Defense Force (GDF) or the Tempest Dynasty, building bases and waging war against their enemies. The game embraces the classic rock-paper-scissors mechanic, making a balanced army essential for achieving victory.

With high-resolution graphics and fluid animations, the developers aim to modernize the classic real-time strategy experience. At launch, Tempest Rising will feature two campaigns, each consisting eleven missions. Additionally, a third playable faction is planned for future updates, promising to expand the game’s strategic depth over time.

Multiplayer demo playable until February 3

To coincide with the Steam Real-Time Strategy Fest, a free demo of Tempest Rising has been released, allowing players to get an early look at the game and engage in multiplayer battles until February 3. Tempest Rising is set to launch on April 24, priced at $39.99 for the standard edition. A Deluxe Edition, available for $49.99, includes seven days of early access, giving eager players a head start.
