Elon Musk recently drew widespread attention with claims of setting gaming records. While some in the gaming community were impressed, others accused the tech billionaire of cheating. These allegations have now been confirmed, sparking significant outrage among gamers.

Tech billionaire Elon Musk has made headlines in recent months by showcasing his skills in popular video games. In Path of Exile 2, he impressed with a run featuring his highly leveled, well-equipped character. In Diablo 4, he even claimed a supposed world record. However, his achievements didn’t sit well with everyone in the gaming community. Many suspected he hadn’t achieved these feats on his own and these suspicions have now been confirmed.

In a chat exchange on X, shared by YouTuber NikoWrex, Elon Musk admitted to both account sharing and purchasing in-game equipment with real money. In the published messages, Musk justified these actions by stating that staying competitive on the Asian-dominated leaderboards would be nearly impossible without such measures. However, he emphasized that he had played the game himself in the gameplay videos shown but would not lay sole claim to the successes of his accounts.

Anger in the gaming community

The community's reaction has been overwhelmingly negative, with disappointment and anger dominating the comments on X and under NikoWrex's YouTube video. Musk is being criticized for undermining the core values of the gaming community. Many argue that a wealthy public figure gaining an advantage through money and external assistance contradicts the fundamental principle of fairness. Players are now urging the developers of Path of Exile 2 and Diablo 4 to ban Musk's accounts, as both account sharing and real-money purchases violate the rules of these games.

YouTuber NikoWrex is also criticized

The YouTuber behind the revelation, NikoWrex, is also facing sharp criticism. Despite his claims that the video is not monetized and not intended to attract subscribers, he has been accused of bias. Many viewers feel that NikoWrex, who openly identifies as a supporter of Musk, is attempting to defend the tech billionaire. This perception is reflected in the video's reception, which has garnered 1,524 dislikes compared to just 623 likes.
