Eleventh Hour Games just dropped a new season for its ARPG, Last Epoch. Dubbed as Tombs of the Erased, it adds a truckload of mechanics and helps to remedy its lacklustre endgame. This has resulted in a massive uptick of players on Steam.
SteamDB reports a 24-hour peak of 150,198 players, which is less than half of its all-time maximum of 264,708 at launch. These numbers will likely taper off once the hype dies down, but it is pretty impressive for an ARPG competing against behemoths like Diablo IV and Path of Exile 2.
Last Epoch is a must-try for hardcore ARPG fans
While Last Epoch isn't as feature-rich as its primary competitors, it has a few tricks up its sleeve that sets it apart from the rest. For example, it does away with the notion of labyrinthine skill/passive trees and lets you pick individual skills to master.
If you're an ARPG fan looking for a fresh IP, Last Epoch is definitely worth your time. Its story, while unfinished, deviates from the usual tropes and adds time travel. Plus, the game works seamlessly on a Steam Deck. And, the best part is, you can play it completely offline.
Path of Exile's Season 2 got a less-than-stellar reception thanks to its myriad of changes that made the already difficult game more cumbersome. Even though Grinding Gear Games has addressed some of them, the community still remains divided about the new season. Diablo IV's new season isn't due until April 29, and it is unlikely that Season 8 will move the needle much.
