The higher you fly, the harder you fall – Elon Musk embarrasses himself in Path of Exile 2

Tech billionaire, self-made PR machine and self-proclaimed high-skill gamer – Elon Musk tried to show off his Path of Exile 2 skills during a 90-minute stream earlier this year. Armed with a fully geared character he claimed to have leveled himself, he set out to prove he knew the game inside out. Fans were skeptical and it didn’t take long for the truth to surface: Musk had actually paid someone else to play for him.

Musk made his return for the launch of the new Dawn of the Hunt season, aiming to create a new hardcore character and play Path of Exile 2 live from a plane using Starlink internet. The stream, titled Starlink Airborne Continuity Test, promised a tech showcase but ended up more like a cringe-filled spectacle. Musk’s first character didn’t even make it past the second boss. The second attempt went worse – he was taken out by the tutorial boss just minutes in. A sudden disconnection followed, which Musk blamed on Starlink issues, though few seemed to buy the excuse.

On Reddit, the whole episode has already become a running joke. Musk is widely mocked as an arrogant amateur who mistakes PR stunts for actual skill. The stream’s title – Starlink Continuity Test – has been picked apart with sarcastic glee. Many users believe it was a built-in excuse, a convenient safety net in case things went south. If he failed, he could just blame the tech. Whether anyone actually buys that explanation is another question entirely. One comment summed it up perfectly:

"I bet he didn't really lose his connection - he's just bad."
