The Google TV Streamer was announced last August and released in late September as a replacement for the discontinued Chromecast with Google TV streaming dongles. The new Google TV streaming device usually sells for $99.99, but for a limited time, it is available to buy at a lower price.
If you have been holding off purchasing the Google TV Streamer because of its price, now is a great time to purchase it as it is now down to $79.99, on both Amazon and Best Buy. While the Google TV Streamer comes in two colors — Porcelain and Hazel — retailers only have it in Porcelain as the second color is exclusive to the Google Store.
The Google TV Streamer is quite different from the Chromecast with Google TV in several ways. For starters, it isn't a dongle, so it can't be connected and hidden behind the TV as it needs to sit on a flat surface such as a TV shelf or mantel. It also has a larger remote with a customizable button and a Find My Remote feature.
Under the hood are even bigger changes, a faster processor, double the RAM and 4x the storage at 4GB and 32GB respectively, allowing for faster load times and more space for apps and games. It also has Dolby Atmos, Dolby Vision, AV1, and HDR10+, and can connect to Nest Speakers and the Pixel Buds Pro with Spatial Audio. It even has a Thread border router and doubles as a Matter hub, and in addition to dual-band Wi-Fi connectivity, there is an Ethernet port for a wired connection.
The Google TV Streamer has an HDMI 2.1 port but doesn't come with a cable in the box, so if you plan to pick a unit up, you should get an HDMI 2.1 cable if you don't already have one. However, you do get a USB-C cable and power adapter in the box.
