Fans of big TVs are spoiled for choice these days, thanks to companies like Samsung, Hisense, and TCL making some excellent large-screen TVs. The availability of several models to choose from has also brought down the prices. Since more competition encourages aggressive pricing, you can often find these TVs at notable discounts.
Samsung’s 2024 QN90D Neo QLED TV in an 85-inch screen size is now available for just $1,999.99 on Amazon. While this is still quite a bit of cash, the discounted price happens to be the lowest ever and is a 33% less than the $2,997.99 list price (linked at the end).
Quality-wise, the Samsung QN90D 4K TV is excellent. The TV boasts a VA panel which, when combined with Mini LED backlighting, delivers a stunning contrast ratio of 270,333:1 per Rtings. This contrast is combined with good color volume and very high HDR brightness, making the Samsung QN90D a superb choice for HDR video playback.
The Samsung QN90D 85-inch TV is also a solid choice for SDR media playback. Rtings’ testing shows that the TV retains its high HDR brightness in the SDR mode with a Real Scene Peak Brightness of 1,315 nits. Such brightness levels, alongside decent reflection handling, make the Samsung QN90D suitable for use in a brightly lit living room.
While not perfect, console gamers will find much to love in the Samsung QN90D. The TV has a 144 Hz native refresh rate, enjoys low input lag, and supports a max output of 4K@144 Hz. It also supports VRR and is fully compatible with the Xbox Series consoles and PS5.
Finally, if you want to watch old movies/shows, Samsung's Neo Quantum 4K AI Gen 2 processor does a good job of upscaling low-res content to 4K.
Simply put, the 85-inch Samsung QN90D Mini LED TV checks a lot of boxes. With a "Mixed Usage" rating of 8.1 from Rtings, it is well worth it at the current asking price.
