Samsung has introduced the Galaxy M56 5G, which is positioned as a cheaper alternative to the Galaxy A56 5G that it launched last month. On the face of it, the Galaxy M56 5G and the Galaxy A56 5G cut a similar figure. However, the Galaxy M56 5G uses an older chipset than the Galaxy A56 5G (curr. $387 on Amazon), which Samsung equips with the Exynos 1580.
By contrast, the Galaxy M56 5G uses the Exynos 1480 found in the Galaxy A55. Setting Samsung's chipset choices aside, the new Galaxy M series handset also features LPDDR5X RAM and UFS 3.1 flash storage, which Samsung complements with a 5,000 mAh battery that supports 45 W wired charging. The Galaxy M56 5G contains 50 MP primary, 8 MP ultra-wide-angle, 2 MP macro and 12 MP front-facing cameras too, although only its primary camera is optically stabilised (OIS).
Arguably, the device is dominated by its AMOLED display, which measures 6.7-inches diagonally while outputting at 1080p and 120 Hz. For reference, the large display is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass Victus Plus; Samsung has not confirmed brightness details, though.
At any rate, the Galaxy M56 5G is slated to receive six major updates from Android 15 onwards and full security patch coverage during the same period. Samsung has only confirmed availability in India so far, where it will start at INR 24,999 (~$293) with 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage. Please see Samsung's website for more details.
