Xiaomi recently released its latest Google TV streaming box, the TV Box S (3rd Gen). Previous entries in the lineup have been a tad underrated but the 3rd Gen model appears to tick a lot of boxes, compared to two close rivals, the Google TV Streamer and RockTek GX1.
As tested by Redditor and enthusiast latinriky78, the Xiaomi TV Box S (3rd Gen) flat-out outperforms the other two boxes in most use-case scenarios. The Xiaomi device supports most of the tested features, including HDR10+ on Netflix, AISR, Dolby TrueHD passthrough, Dolby Vision on 4K HDR10 and remux, as well as a variety of DTS formats for streaming. It also supposedly handles Steam Link and GeForce Now streaming the best of the three.
It's important, of course, to point out that the Xiaomi TV Box S (3rd Gen)'s hardware may be considered outdated at this point. The TV box only features 2 GB of RAM, for example, as well as a single USB 2.0 port. A LAN port is absent as well. That said, real-life performance is king and the Box S (3rd Gen) seems to hold its own. For those outside of North America who lack access to Walmart's Onn series, Xiaomi's $60 box may well be the best option on the market.
