Walmart has now halted the Android 14 rollout to its Google TV streaming box after multiple reports of performance issues, bugs, and a not insignificant number of bricked devices. Users yet to upgrade to Android 14 will have to wait for the rollout to resume with a new build.

Walmart's Onn streaming boxes offer the best price-to-performance ratio on the market these days, especially with the recent addition of the Onn 4K Plus. While the Onn 4K Plus launched with Android 14, Walmart has been pushing the Android 14 update to its older devices but that seems to have hit something of a stumbling block.

As reported by multiple users on Reddit, the Android 14 update appears to have bricked some units of the Onn 4K and Onn 4K Pro. Although the update wasn't fatal to all devices, some owners report having their units hard-bricked, with not even a reset fixing the issue. Other users needed to reset their Onn box to get full functionality, while others have faced no serious issues outside of slight performance hiccups.

Either way, Walmart has pulled the Android 14 update for all of its boxes as it works on the necessary bug fixes. Those yet to install the update will have to wait for a new rollout, which should hopefully arrive soon and with fewer issues. Users with bricked devices may find some luck reaching out to Walmart for a replacement, with at least one Redditor claiming to have received a new unit.
