Thomson has unveiled the Go Cast 150, a new HDMI dongle that basically turns screens with an HDMI input into a smart TV. The new media player is available now and retails for €69 in Europe. However, online retailers like Amazon Germany already list the product for just under €50. Even though the Go Cast 150 looks quite similar to the Google Chromecast, it’s officially a Thomson product. Nonetheless, it relies on the Google TV operating system.
Consequently, this compact HDMI dongle brings the familiar Google TV features found on smart TVs and other streaming sticks to any display that’s equipped with an HDMI port. This can be particularly useful for camping or hotels, allowing users to use their preferred apps and favorite content with them.
For example, Google TV provides access to numerous streaming platforms, including Netflix, YouTube, Amazon Prime Video, Spotify, Disney Plus and many more. A wide selection of additional apps are available on the Google Play Store. Moreover, Google Cast allows the Thomson Go Cast 150 to stream content from a smartphone or tablet.
In terms of specs, the Thomson Go Cast 150 is powered by an Amlogic quad-core processor with ARM Mali-G31 MP2 graphics, 2GB of RAM and 8GB of storage. This hardware supposedly ensures smooth playback at up to 4K and 60 Hz, and it also supports the latest AV1 codecs. The media player is powered via USB-C, while a multi-plug adapter and Bluetooth remote are included in the box. Lastly, voice control via Google Assistant is supported as well.
