The Google Home Spring 2025 update is here. It arrives approximately six months after the Fall 2024 update, which brought various Gemini-powered abilities to the brand’s smart home ecosystem.
Now, the Spring 2025 update is bringing more new features to users. You can now add more controls to your Favorites tab. For example, you could add a tile to monitor the temperature in various rooms or a tile to switch off a group of lights in your home. Users can also customize their Favourites independently for each device, so you can have different Favourites on a smartwatch and tablet.
Android users in the US can access a Public Preview of a new, easier automation set-up process with fewer steps. Plus, the Spring 2025 update allows you to set up Home and Away routines based on presence sensing; rather than a dedicated presence sensor, Google Home can determine an 'at home’ state through your actions, such as playing music or watching TV. For those with cameras, when reviewing footage, you can double tap the screen to jump forwards or backwards ten seconds. Plus, the update brings support for the Nest Protect smoke and CO alarm, and third-party Matter smart locks, like the Aqara Smart Lock U300 (curr. $179.99 at Amazon).
You can find the complete release notes for the Google Home Spring 2025 update on the company’s forum. This update will be available through the Google Play Store and the Apple App Store.
