If you play EA games on an older version of Windows, it's time to upgrade.
EA today announced that it will be closing its Origin game management tool on April 17, 2025. The decision, according to EA, comes as a result of Microsoft no longer supporting 32-bit software.
Instead of Origin, gamers will need to download the EA app from the publisher, which is 64-bit and requires a 64-bit version of Windows. Games should transfer seamlessly to the new app upon login, although some save files may need to be copied over via the file system (primarily those that don't support cloud saves). If users are simply switching applications, games that are already installed on their system should show up automatically.
Keep in mind that most EA Origin users are likely already on a 64-bit version of Windows. Windows Vista was the first version of Microsoft's operating system available with 64-bit support, and it launched in 2006. However, Windows 10 and below offered 32-bit versions, so some users may still be on a non-supported OS.
To check which version of Windows you have, open the Settings app, go to "System," and click on the "About" option. Conversely, you can also press the Windows key and type "winver" to display which version of Windows you have. Windows 8 users can right-click the start button and select "PC Info" to get this data.
