The Nikon Coolpix P1100 is marketed as the successor to the Coolpix P1000 from 2018. Although the previous model is already seven years old, the technical upgrades are rather limited. The Coolpix P1100 mainly receives a USB-C port to comply with the corresponding EU requirement. The camera only supports the outdated 802.11g Wi-Fi standard, but WPA3-SAE support has been added and allows connecting to more modern networks.
Furthermore, the Bluetooth module has been updated to Bluetooth 5.1. The sensor remains unchanged as Nikon continues to use a 1/2.3 inch CMOS sensor with 16 megapixels, which can record 4K video at 30 frames per second. However, the sensor only has a light sensitivity of up to ISO 1,600. The highlight of Nikon’s spec sheet is arguably the lens, which has a 35mm equivalent focal length of 24 mm to 3,000 mm, and thus offers a 125x optical zoom.
Thanks to the complex setup with 17 lenses in twelve groups, including five ED and one Super ED lens, the Coolpix P1100 should offer decent picture quality. Moreover, the new Nikon camera comes with 4x digital zoom, which makes a hybrid zoom with up to 600x possible. The camera also has a folding 3.2-inch display with 921,000 pixels and an electronic viewfinder with an OLED panel with a total of 2.36 million pixels. The Nikon EN-EL20a battery should provide enough power for 260 photos or 70 minutes of video recording.
