The Viltrox 28mm f/4.5 lens for Sony FE cameras was released just a few weeks ago, and now the manufacturer is also offering this extremely compact lens for Fujifilm X cameras. Viltrox hasn't changed much, as the lens still covers the full image circle of a full-frame sensor, which means that it should deliver even better picture quality when used with Fujifilm X cameras with the smaller APS-C sensor.
The most striking feature is arguably its size. The lens is incredibly slim at 1.5 centimeters (0.6 inches) and weighs just 2.1 oz, which means that some Fujifilm cameras can easily slip into a jacket pocket. The front lens cap can be retracted with a sliding mechanism that makes a dedicated lens cap superfluous. The aperture of f/4.5 is fixed and cannot be adjusted. On the positive side, the lens supports autofocus, while the small focus ring can be used to manually adjust focus.
What's rather unusual is that the lens features a USB-C port for firmware updates. Viltrox has incorporated six elements in six groups, including two ED and two aspherical elements. While the lens is supposed to render sharp images even in the corners, the sample images below show that the lens produces a fairly low contrast and saturation.
