Fujifilm looks to be preparing to introduce four new cameras in 2025. Here's everything the rumour mill has to say about the upcoming affordable X-E4, the fixed-lens, medium-format GFX100RF, the medium-format GFX Eterna cinema camera, and the ultra-compact half-frame camera with a 1-inch sensor. Last updated: January 20

Fujifilm has seen a significant rise in popularity in recent years, with the likes of the Fujifilm X100V and its successor, the X100VI, taking over social media. Now, Fujifilm is looking to capitalise on that hype with four more new cameras in 2025. While we don't yet have any official information, the rumour mill and leaks suggest we're in for a number of unique launches in 2025.

1. Fujifilm X-E5: The affordable X100VI alternative

Likely Fujifilm's most important launch in 2025 for those not swimming in money, the X-E5 looks like it will be revisiting the X-E line-up with some X100VI tricks.

We last reported on this compact, retro-styled X-mount camera in March last year, when it was revealed in an interview that the affordable compact X-mount camera would live on, despite rumours to the contrary. Currently, rumours out of Fujirumours indicate that the X-E5 will launch in Summer of 2025, which isn't a very specific time frame.

Rumours have not been generous regarding specifications for the X-E5, although we can speculate that the new camera will launch with similar hardware to the X100VI, since that is the route Fujifilm has previously taken. Pricing can also be expected to be slightly less than the X100VI, and we can expect a mix of professional and beginner features and build quality. Fujirumors also previously indicated that the X-E5 will not feature the typical PSAM dial, suggesting that it will either opt for the new film simulation dial that made its debut on the X-T50 (curr. $1,399 on Amazon)

The sub-X100VI pricing doesn't necessarily mean the X-E5 will be cheap, either, although it will likely be on the more affordable side of Fujifilm's current line-up. Expect pricing somewhere between the X-M5 (curr. $999.99 on Amazon) and the X100VI (priced at $1,599, but basically out of stock everywhere forever). Fujifilm often makes some compromises when it comes to materials and features in the X-E line-up.

2. Fujifilm GFX Eterna: A medium format video camera

Unlike many other cameras on this list, the Fujifilm GFX100 Eterna isn't entirely based on speculation, rumours, or leaks. Fujifilm itself confirmed that the medium-format video camera is in development last November. Currently, a release date is unknown, although a 2025 launch is all but certain, as Fujifilm already showed off the concept GFX100 Eterna at InterBEE 2024.

Fujifilm also revealed some basic specifications for the GFX100 Eterna, essentially confirming that it is a GFX100 II in a different body — one designed for filmmaking, with plentiful attachment points and screw threads for accessories.

This means the GFX100 Eterna will feature a medium-format GFX 102 MP CMOS II HS sensor paired to the X-Processor 5. This means the GFX100 Eterna will feature 8K, F-Log2, and Apple ProRes 422 recording, over 14 stops of dynamic range, and 8-stop IBIS, potentially making it both an excellent studio and handheld documentary camera.

It's likely the GFX100 Eterna will have the same card slots as the vanilla GFX100 II, making it compatible with UHS-I, UHS-II, CFExpress TypeB, and SSDs under 2 TB. Pricing is as-yet unknown, but Fujifilm claims it will be "affordable," which, in the world of cinema cameras, means very little to the average consumer. Currently, the Fujifilm GFX100S II can be had on Best Buy for a whopping $4,999.99, while the GFX100 II is listed at $7499.99, although it's out of stock. It wouldn't be unexpected to see the GFX100 Eterna fall somewhere in between those two medium-format cameras.

3. A mystery Fujifilm half-frame camera

Not much is known about the Fujifilm half-frame camera — supposedly the X-HF — that's allegedly currently in development, other than that it will arrive in 2025 and will likely use a 1-inch sensor, which will be a first for Fujifilm's digital camera line-up.

The rumours of the X-HF claim that the sensor will be oriented in portrait orientation, making it a potential alternative to smartphones, which will likely be a tantalising prospect for social media users and influencers. Resolution is currently slated to be around 20 MP, and it looks like Fujifilm will use a Sony-made sensor for the camera. Not much else is known about the new camera, however, but it will seemingly launch in 2025.

4. Fujifilm GFX100RF: The medium-format X100VI

Perhaps the most unique camera in Fujifilm's 2025 release schedule is the GFX100RF, which looks to be a retro-styled GFX100 camera with a fixed lens and retro styling, in the same vein as the X100VI. According to the latest rumours out of Fujirumors, the GFX100RF will launch in March 2025.

The Fujifilm GFX100RF looks to be an interesting camera because it takes the X100VI formula and upsizes it, with interesting new features, to boot. Currently, the GFX100RF is expected to launch with a GF35 mm F4 fixed prime lens, as opposed to the G mount traditionally found on Fujifilm's GFX line-up. Curiously, this lens will give a much wider FOV than the X100VI's 35 mm full-frame equivalent, with the GFX100RF coming in at a full-frame equivalent of around 28 mm.

Additionally, according to recent leaks, the GFX100RF will have a dedicated aspect ratio dial on the back of the camera and a live image crop lever under the shutter button. It's also looking more and more like the GFX100RF will have a wealth of manual controls, like ISO, shutter speed, and exposure dials, as opposed to a simple PSAM dial with on-screen controls to back that up.

January 20 update: The most recent Fujirumors leaks have revealed that the GFX100RF will not have a hybrid viewfinder, which has been a staple for the regular X100 line-up. While this may be disappointing news for some Fujifilm fixed-lens cameras, it may mean that Fujifilm will be able to offer other premium medium-format features at a slightly lower price. It may also mean the body of the camera can be somewhat smaller than it otherwise would need to be, thanks to reduced complexity.
