The Fujifilm X-Pro3 combines the hybrid viewfinder from the X100 line with support for interchangeable lenses. Launched back in October 2019, the latest model in the series hasn’t been available new since late 2023. The X-Pro3’s specs are also slightly dated, featuring a 26.1 MP APS-C sensor rather than the newer 40.2 MP sensor on the X100 VI.
Fujifilm seems to be aware that consumers are longing for a follow-up to the X-Pro3. In an interview with PetaPixel, the company confirmed that it hasn’t given up on the X-Pro series. Although the X-Pro4 is going to come “one day”, Fujifilm doesn’t want to just put the current X-Processor 5 and a newer X-Trans sensor into a Fujifilm X-Pro3 body because that would be “boring”. Instead, the company is planning to give the next X-Pro a significant upgrade to satisfy professional users.
After more than five years, an update similar to what the Fujifilm X100 VI received (for example a stabilised 40 MP sensor) would already be a substantial improvement. Fujifilm stated in the interview that such an upgrade would have been an option. However, so much time has passed since the X-Pro3’s release that consumers’ expectations for its successor have grown. As a result, the company said it has made the X-Pro4’s development harder for itself.
Even in 2025, the Fujifilm X-Pro3 is still somewhat of a curiosity in the camera market, particularly due to its hybrid viewfinder, which incorporates an optical viewfinder and an electronic viewfinder based on a 0.5-inch OLED panel with 3.69 million dots. Users can switch between the two viewfinders by operating a lever. More information on the X-Pro3 is available on Fujifilm’s website.
