The availability of the Fujifilm X100 VI remains very limited even more than one year after its release. Even though the camera can occasionally be found at certain retailers, larger online shops in particular often still don’t have it in stock. In an interview with PetaPixel, Fujifilm confirmed this situation is soon going to change.
The production of the camera is said to have more than doubled compared to its immediate predecessor. Fujifilm was already making in excess of 15,000 units per month at launch and has further increased production over the past months. Whilst the company is still working on boosting production, its manufacturing capacity is close to being exhausted, making it impossible to double production again. One of the reasons is that components such as the top plate are difficult to mass-produced.
Fujifilm said it sold more X100 VI units within the first twelve months than all previous X100 models in the four years prior. The company reportedly received so many orders by launch day that some customers who placed an order on day one had to wait as many as ten months for their cameras to arrive.
The company is now close to meeting the demand for the camera and fulfilling all outstanding orders. Therefore, Fujifilm encourages consumers to avoid buying the X100 VI from sellers offering the camera at inflated prices and instead exercise a bit of patience.
