New Ricoh GR IV compact APS-C cameras poised to challenge Fujifilm X100VI in 2025 per latest leak
Ricoh recently launched the GR III HDF as a unique take on its GR III series cameras, which are known for their compact nature and relatively large APS-C sensors, which make them excellent point-and-shoot, travel, and street photography cameras. A new supposed leak out of Andrea Pizzini, of Sony Alpha Rumors fame, claims that Ricoh will launch two GR IV cameras sometime in 2025.
The two GR IV cameras, one being a standard colour APS-C camera and the other a monochrome version of the GR IV, are both slated to launch in 2025, although they will seemingly not launch simultaneously. This pretty much aligns with Ricoh's strategy surrounding the GR series — the GR III has multiple versions, including versions with different switchable filters and different focal lengths.
It's unclear what the exact changes will be going from the Ricoh GR III to the GR IV, but Pizzini proposes that his source was being a little cagey about the specifications because there will likely be a new sensor, a new lens, or other significant design or feature changes. The Ricoh GR III series has been around for over five years, at this point, having launched in 2019, so it's more than due for an update, even considering the slower update cadence of the enthusiast camera market. Given its age, a complete sensor and image processor refresh is more than likely for the GR IV.
