Fujifilm appears to be planning both a refresh to one of its more popular APS-C interchangeable lens camera series, in the X-E5, and an entirely new camera, the XHalf. Both of these cameras have appeared in leaks before, but the latest leaks reveal just how compact the XHalf will be and confirm once again that the X-E5 is actually on the way and may even be released in 2025.
Fujifilm XHalf leaked image conveys shockingly small size
As the expected May 22 launch of the Fujifilm XHalf approaches, leaks about the upcoming compact camera seem to be picking up steam. Most recently, a leaked image shows off the XHalf in what looks to be a hands-on shot from a teaser video.
We've known for a while that the XHalf would be quite a compact camera, smaller even than the X-M5 (curr. $899.99 at Best Buy), which is already very compact, but the leaked image puts those previously revealed dimensions into context. The most interesting part of the leaked image is just how small the lens is, seemingly being thinner than the actual camera body itself.
With the XHalf's expected 1-inch sensor, it stands to reason that its 10.5 mm lens would be rather compact, but if the recent image leak is true, the XHalf might even be pocketable.
Fujifilm X-E5 regulatory listing hints at imminent launch
Looking a little further into the future, it seems as though the Fujifilm X-E5 may be launching in 2025, after all. Previously, Fujifilm confirmed that it would be reviving the X-E and X-Pro camera line-ups after speculation that both APS-C camera series had been cancelled by Fujifilm.
The latest information, from leaker E8M_888 on Weibo, reveals that Fujifilm has just registered two new cameras in China. The first is listed as FF25001 and is expected to be the Fujifilm X-E5, since it has more advanced multi-band wireless support, and the X-E5 wouldn't be an entry-level camera in terms of pricing, so better wireless support is expected. The registration doesn't reveal much else about the upcoming Fujifilm X-E5 other than confirming that the new APS-C camera will likely be released soon. Previous rumours pointed to a “summer 2025” launch window, which doesn't narrow things down much.
So far, there is no indication of what the second camera (FF250003) in the Chinese regulatory filing is, but speculation suggests something like a Fujifilm X-M3, although it may also be an update to the Fujifilm X-T200, or another entry-level camera, since it has more rudimentary wireless capability.
