Fujifilm X-Pro4, X-E5 cede limelight to X100VI social media favourite at February 20 X-Summit
Next to Fujifilm's ever-popular X100V sat the premium X-Pro3 and somewhat budget-oriented X-E4, and for good reason. The two interchangeable-lens rangefinder-style cameras bear much of the same simplistic retro appeal as the X100V, but they offer the flexibility of interchangeable lenses, and, in the case of the X-E4, a lower price. While the X-Pro4 and X-E5 have long been rumoured for 2024, a new rumour, shared by Fujirumors, claims that fans of the compact X-E and X-Pro series will have to wait a little longer to satisfy their itch.
While there is no specific launch date in the leak, Fujirumors asserts that the X-Pro4 and X-E5 will arrive later in 2024, but well after the X100VI that is expected to launch at the February 20 X-Summit. At the time of writing, it's unclear when Fujifilm will launch the other compact rangefinder-style cameras, but the existence of the X-E5 is already unclear, and it could be a long wait before the X-Pro4 launches.
It might make sense to launch the three Fujifilm rangefinder-style cameras at the same time, from an aesthetic point of view, but this type of launch schedule has historically not been the norm. In fact, there was almost half a year between the launch of the Fujifilm X-Pro4 and the X100V, and it would be more than a year before Fujifilm launched the X-E4 after the X100V.
The expected upgrade to the 40 MP X-Trans CMOS 5 HR sensor and X-Processor 5 from the Fujifilm X-T5 (curr. $1,699 on Amazon), alongside the addition of IBIS, will surely enchant many of the same crowd that loved the previous X100 cameras. Although, those that have a vast collection of Fujifilm X-Mount lenses or simply don't want a camera with a fixed focal length will have to wait just a little longer for their upgrade.
If you're looking for a similarly compact, capable camera, and are willing to sacrifice on the rangefinder looks, check out the Fujifilm X-S20 on Amazon for $1,399 with a kit lens.
