Fujifilm X100VI image leak confirms minimal design changes for new compact APS-C rangefinger-style camera
Ahead of the camera's expected February 20 launch, the Fujifilm X100VI has been leaking online left, right, and centre. This time, some allegedly leaked images of the upcoming X100V replacement shared by Fujirumors reveal a very iterative body design with minimal ergonomic changes.
The very blurry leaked photos reveal the back and top of a supposed Fujifilm X100VI body with basically no changes from its predecessor, save a new logo towards the bottom of the back of the body, which appears to be a Bluetooth logo — perhaps for making image transfer to smartphones easier. All the top dials, shortcut buttons, and the rest of the rear control scheme remain unchanged.
This is also not to say that there will be no changes to the X100VI's front control scheme. Previously, Fujifilm rather controversially removed the physical drive selector from the front of the camera. It's also worth mentioning that, although leaks this late in the development stage are usually fairly accurate, nothing is confirmed until Fujifilm's X-Summit on February 20, when the X100VI will supposedly be launched.
While it's not surprising to see the X100VI very closely resemble the X100V, given that it's a mature product line-up from Fujifilm, it might be disappointing to some, especially since Fujifilm allegedly already had to make changes to the body of the camera to accommodate new IBIS hardware. Additionally, the Fujifilm X100VI will allegedly cost around $200 more than the X100V did at launch, making its minimalist design a slightly tougher pill to swallow.
That said, the X100 line-up as a whole is, to many, all about reducing the number of distractions, making the minimalist design an appropriate decision. It's also worth noting that the Fujifilm X100VI looks to be chock-full of updates to the brains of the device, with leaks claiming the inclusion of a new sensor-processor combo, in-body image stabilisation, and 4K 60p video.
If you were looking forward to the X100VI, but don't like that Fujifilm hasn't updated the ergonomics, you might want to look into the Fujifilm X-S20 (curr. $1,399 with a 15–45 mm kit lens on Amazon) or the venerable Fujifilm X-T5 (curr. $1,699 on Amazon).
