While we have not reviewed the Galaxy S24 Ultra (curr. $1,299.99 on Amazon) yet, DxOMark has offered early indications of the device's display qualities. Additionally, the website has highlighted the strengths and weaknesses of its camera system, which appears to have made some progress from the Galaxy S23 Ultra. Unfortunately for Samsung, its latest 'Ultra' smartphone falls short of competitors like the iPhone 15 Pro Max and Pixel 8 Pro, among other recent flagships.
A score of 144 points overall also puts the Galaxy S24 Ultra way behind other high-end models that are harder to purchase outside China, such as the Honor Magic6 Pro, Huawei Mate 60 Pro Plus, P60 Pro and the Vivo X100 Pro. Overall, Samsung's latest premier smartphone performs solidly by capturing detailed photos and videos that are not only accurately exposed but also effective in their colour reproduction. Similarly, DxOMark observed its Galaxy S24 Ultra review unit produced well-stabilised videos thanks to its electronic and optical solutions (EIS/OIS).
The Galaxy S24 Ultra still suffers from noticeable shutter lag though, which was also a problem in the Galaxy S23 Ultra. As a result, the former can miss some fast-moving objects and tends to suffer from a lack of detail combined with visible image noise in low light conditions. Somehow, the Galaxy S24 Ultra's primary camera pulls out fewer details in certain scenarios than the iPhone 15 Pro Max's too, despite having over four times more pixels at its disposal (200 MP/48 MP).
