Leica SL3 to be launched soon with new 60 MP full-frame sensor and anti-counterfeiting feature

After initial details about the features of the Leica SL3 recently trickled through, LeicaRumors has now been able to find out the specific launch date, allegedly from an official invitation from Leica that has already been sent to specialized publications in some regions. According to this, the flagship system camera will be unveiled on March 7, give or take one day, depending on the time zone.

The most significant innovation is the 60-MP full-frame sensor, which is also used in the Leica M11. However, the larger body of the Leica SL3 allows Leica to equip this sensor with image stabilization, which should enable a shutter speed of up to 6.5 stops longer without a tripod. Just as exciting is the integration of Content Credentials, a kind of technology that checks and proves the authenticity of a given photo beyond doubt, including the editing history, which is intended to strengthen trust in photography in times of AI-generated images.

Another new feature is the ability to record 8K videos at up to 30 fps or 4K clips at 60 fps. In addition to the SD card reader, Leica will reportedly install a CF Express Type B card reader. The body is said to be newly developed and slightly more compact compared to the Leica SL2, but there are hardly any details about the design innovations so far. The camera is still IP54-certified and so protected against rain. According to rumors, the Leica SL3 will be priced at an RRP of around $8000. For comparison, the Leica SL2 costs $6995.
