Assassin’s Creed Shadows is getting a prequel in manga form

Assassin’s Creed Shadows is releasing on March 20 but a prequel, in the form of a manga, has already been confirmed. The game, developed by Ubisoft Quebec, will be the 14th instalment in the franchise and is set in feudal Japan. While the release is still a few weeks away, Ubisoft has shared a lot of gameplay footage to get players hyped, and a few YouTubers and streamers have had the opportunity to try out the game early, with somewhat mixed impressions.

The manga announcement was made on X by the official Assassin’s Creed account. It states that the manga will be a prequel to the story of Assassin’s Creed Shadows and will tell the story of “a young Assassin apprentice” and her fight against the Templars order in Japan. The manga will be available first in Japan when the game officially launches and then come to other parts of the world. As mentioned earlier, the game is scheduled for release on March 20, though it has already been delayed twice at this point.

It was originally scheduled for November 12, 2024, but was postponed to February 14 this year and at the time, it was stated that the delay is to ensure a more refined experience for players. Additionally, Ubisoft also received backlash over some historical inaccuracies and unsavoury promotional imagery. Then, in January, the company announced it will be delaying the launch by a few weeks to implement feedback from the community and “ensure an even more ambitious and engaging day-one experience.”
