It is an open secret at this point that Ubisoft is working on Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag Remake. AC IV Black Flag was originally launched in October 2013 to much fanfare and critical acclaim. The title’s setting, story, and ship combat were quite well received. With the AC Black Flag Remake, Ubisoft appears to be bringing the 2013 title to 2025 in a refreshed way.
According to a new report published on MP1ST, the AC Black Flag Remake will not only feature a graphical overhaul, thanks to the updated Anvil engine but will also bring new gameplay mechanics. One such mechanic is reported to be wildlife encounters and the atmosphere surrounding those encounters.
Ubisoft leaned heavily into wildlife encounters with AC Origins to populate the vast open-world map with activities and resource-hunting opportunities. The wildlife mechanics returned in subsequent AC games, including Odyssey and Valhalla, and are expected to be prominent in AC Shadows.
Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Remake might have updated ship gameplay
A big part of the original AC IV Black Flag is the title’s ship combat. This gameplay element was so iconic that Ubisoft started the development of an online component for AC Black Flag focusing entirely on ship-to-ship combat. After many twists, delays, and much controversy, the supposed online component of AC Black Flag released as a standalone game titled “Skull and Bones” in February 2024.
So, fans have gotten some taste of AC Black Flag ship combat with modern graphics in Skull and Bones but many gamers want the full AC Black Flag experience. As such, Ubisoft could bring elements of Skull & Bones’ gameplay like multiple ships and deep customization to the new AC Black Flag Remake.
AC Black Flag Remake release date
We reported back in October 2024 that Ubisoft could release the AC Black Flag Remake in November 2025 or even sooner. However, Ubisoft has delayed AC Shadows even further, which could force the Black Flag Remake release back.
As things stand currently we expect AC Black Flag Remake release to fall sometime before the end of the year, as this would give Ubisoft a big AAA game for the holiday 2025 season.
In the end, we hope Ubisoft can release a polished Assassin’s Creed experience, since the company hasn’t been having a peachy time lately.
