The release of Assassin's Creed Shadows saw a last-minute delay, and now, the game is projected to launch on February 14, 2025. While this delay was bad news for those waiting to play the new entry in the franchise, the good part is that the developers are keeping the fans updated.
Previously, Ubisoft showed off stealth gameplay, which introduced several new mechanics that aim to enhance the stealth experience in Assassin's Creed Shadows. Now, the developers have given an overview of the combat gameplay, which also introduces new mechanics.
As you may already know, in Assassin's Creed Shadows, players can choose between two characters: Naoe and Yasuke. Ubisoft describes in the new overview that both these two characters will have a distinct combat style. Naoe's defense mechanics are characterized as evasion, while Yasuke focuses more on blocking attacks.
The new mechanics in the game will also enable players to carry out charge attacks. These, as you can tell, will deal heavy damage, while Posture Attacks will break the guards of the enemies. This adds a tactical layer to the overall combat of Assassin's Creed Shadows.
Players can also put the enemies in a vulnerable state, similar to what you can do in Ghost of Tsushima. The enemies will only enter this state when certain conditions are met, such as executing a perfect dodge. This state will open up opportunities for powerful counterattacks, and with this, Ubisoft is encouraging players to master the timing in combats and understand the defensive maneuvers.
In the official blog post, Ubisoft has also listed some of the attacks that players need to be mindful of in Assassin's Creed Shadows. You can give it a read to get an idea of the dynamic combat mechanics of the game.
