GOG Winter Sale leak: Well-rated point-and-click adventure game to go free starting December 12
Expect your game libraries to be absolutely stocked by the time this year ends. Yesterday, we covered the Epic Games Store's Holiday Sale 2024 and its leaked schedule. Now, a new leak from the same reliable source - @billbil_kun - reveals that GOG.com’s Winter Sale 2024 will also begin on December 12, more specifically at 3 PM CET. Alongside the discounts, the first giveaway will be The Whispered World: Special Edition. The critically acclaimed 2D point-and-click adventure will be free to claim starting December 12, but for now, it is available for $1.99 at a 90% discount (down from its original $19.99).
The Whispered World: Special Edition is a visually stunning, melancholic fairy-tale adventure with:
- Hand-drawn 2D visuals and frame-by-frame animation
- Alternate ending and a developer commentary feature
- Unlockable achievements and a re-polished soundtrack
The game, which has a Metacritic rating of 70/100, focuses on Sadwick, a young clown haunted by dreams of the world’s end, and features an emotional narrative paired with classic point-and-click gameplay. Its modest system requirements (just 1.7 GB of storage and 2 gigs of RAM) make it accessible to almost any PC, even older systems.
While the game currently sits at a heavily discounted price of $1.99, it will become completely free from December 12 at 3 PM CET until December 15 at 3 PM CET. To claim it, simply log in to your GOG account during that window and add it to your library permanently.
GOG’s Winter Sale 2024 will also feature wide-ranging discounts on both DRM-free classics and modern titles, often reaching up to 90% off. Given GOG’s history of generous giveaways during past Winter Sales, more free games may follow as the event progresses.
