Ubisoft may reportedly release the Assassin's Creed Black Flag Remake sooner than expected

Ubisoft has been in the news a lot recently, more so than usual. Following its recent delay of Assassin's Creed Shadows, new details cover the Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Remake, codenamed Obsidian - which was originally targeted for a November 2025 release. However, the aforementioned delay of AC Shadows to February 2025 may impact this timeline. Marc-Alexis Côté, the executive producer, mentioned that the Shadows delay will not just affect the Black Flag remake, but also Ubisoft’s broader Assassin’s Creed release roadmap, which includes around 10 titles planned for the next five years, if the Insider Gaming report is to be believed.

Insider Gaming further stated that they received gameplay from the Black Flag Remake, showing Edward Kenway, the Welsh-born British privateer-turned-pirate (and the protagonist of AC Black Flag), sailing in an upgraded Anvil Engine - further hinting that the game is well into development. Despite the shifts in Ubisoft’s schedule, Black Flag Remake might still be released earlier than expected, as per reports.

The development of both Black Flag Remake and other titles like the mobile game Assassin’s Creed Jade shows that Ubisoft still wants to commit to its most popular franchise, despite its stock going downhill as Tencent and Guillemot Family are said to be considering buying the company. Some of the upcoming Assassin's Creed launch dates may be adjusted in the coming months. Fans can expect further updates on the reshuffled timeline soon, but for now, it remains to be seen if Ubisoft stabilizes after Star Wars: Outlaws underperformed heavily.
