Despite numerous rumors, Assassin's Creed: Shadows was the last game in the series announced by Ubisoft. That could soon change, after a dataminer found a new entry in the PlayStation backend.
PlayStation Game Size routinely leaks discoveries in the database on social media. The code in question doesn't belong to DLC, like Claws of Awaji, scheduled for release on September 16th. Instead, there is a stronger possibility that a new Assassin's Creed game will surface soon.
The dataminer brought up the much-anticipated Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag remake when asked for clarification. The 2013 title's emphasis on naval combat and piracy makes it instantly recognizable. In October 2024, Insider Gaming revealed that the remake might appear as early as November 2025.
According to a game designer's online profile located by MP1st, the title may use the familiar Anvil engine. Still, the modernized Black Flag would introduce refined combat mechanics, among other improvements.
Another clue emerged in a March 2025 Pure Arts livestream showcasing statues honoring the franchise. Edward Kenney, a central character in Black Flag, was conspicuously absent from a collection of figures. One of the hosts hinted that the protagonist's involvement in another project was to blame.
The database leak could also be related to Assassin's Creed Invictus, a multiplayer experience that takes cues from Fall Guys. The game was first discussed in a 2022 interview with Ubisoft's Marc-Alexis Cote.
Ubisoft's financial struggles prompted a deal with Tencent to invest in its major IPs. As part of a shifting strategy, the publisher will prioritize its established games over new AAA titles. The PlayStation Game Size leak may signal the first of many new Assassin's Creed games, including Hexe, a contender for the next mainline entry.
