Philips has unveiled a new monitor with robust features and the model number 27E3U7903. This is not a monitor for gamers, but rather for professional users. It’s based on a 27-inch IPS panel and aims to impress with a high resolution, 5,120 x 2,880 pixels to be more exact. A brightness of 500 nits is specified, as is a refresh rate of 70Hz. This is usually too low for gamers but not really noticeable during most productivity tasks. The color accuracy is stated as Delta E < 2, with this figure applying to the sRGB color space, which is covered at 160 percent. According to Philips, the monitor covers 99.5% of the Adobe RGB color space and can be calibrated in order to ensure color accuracy.
Furthermore, the 5K monitor is equipped with a smart KVM switch, which means that connected accessories can be assigned to certain devices that are hooked up to the Apple Studio Display competitor. The Philips 27E3U7903 also comes with USB Type-C and Type-A ports. Video signals can be received via HDMI 2.1 and Thunderbolt 4, the latter also supports charging with up to 96 watts. Daisy-chaining is supported as well and can be used to connect to a second monitor, for instance. The screen can also display two source signals at the same time.
Additionally, the Philips monitor sports DisplayHDR 600 certification as well as the so-called PowerSensor 2, which should help save energy when users leave their desk while all devices are running. Moreover, there are built-in stereo speakers with 5 watts each, a 5MP webcam with a microphone and automatic framing is also integrated. The new 5K monitor is already listed for €1,090 in Europe, which is significantly cheaper than the competing Apple Studio Display.
