Following the launch of the DS5, MBox is now seeking financial support for its latest secondary display through crowdfunding. The newly announced MBox D9 is currently available for $79 (excluding shipping), down from its list price of $129, and is expected to start shipping in November 2025. Nonetheless, potential backers should be mindful of the usual financial risks associated with crowdfunding campaigns before making a purchase.
The D9 features a 9.2-inch ultrawide screen with a resolution of 1,920 x 464 pixels. It connects to other devices via USB-C instead of HDMI, meaning it isn’t intended to function as a conventional external monitor. Content displayed on the D9 is managed through software. This software application offers plenty of configuration options and a graphical interface, enabling users to customise their secondary display without any programming. For instance, the screen can be configured to show all kinds of widgets or content, like photos and animations.
Other potential applications include displaying various system metrics (such as CPU usage and temperatures), stock market information, or song lyrics. The MBox D9 supports both portrait and landscape orientations and is compatible with an open-source development environment, unlocking even more opportunities for personalisation. Shortcuts are available to streamline switching between different views.
