Despite massive participation on the Monster Hunter Wilds release date, the game has struggled since. Performance issues have frustrated PC users, but the title has also failed to win over many console fans. Interest levels are so low in Japan that a used goods shop values it at 18 JPY or 11 cents.
Japanese stores can't give away Monster Hunter Wilds
Automaton reported that Kaitori World is offering to purchase the PS5 version for a surprisingly low amount. The problems with the action RPG in the country are well documented, prompting Capcom President Haruhiro Tsujimoto to comment. Rather than low frame rates, he attributed the slow sales to the high cost of Sony’s console.
The rumored Monster Hunter Wilds Switch 2 port could expand its Japanese player base. Nintendo released a cheaper region-locked version of the handheld in a mobile-friendly marketplace. Monster Hunter Rise, which was designed for the Switch, set sales records in Capcom’s home base.
Discussed by The Gamer, a Redditor shared another advertisement for a used copy selling for $3 in Japan. Fans are also finding low prices in other parts of the world. An Australian stumbled upon a sealed copy of the game for $19 AUD. Severely reduced, that converts to around $13 USD.
The Monster Hunter Wilds price is more stable in the U.S. SteamDB shows an all-time low mark of $38, although physical console versions are often cheaper. Amazon had a sale on the Capcom game in recent months for $25 that included PS5 and Xbox versions.
Some Monster Hunter Wilds risks haven't paid off
The December Title Update 4 improved PC performance, leading to a resurgence in Steam player counts. However, its popularity has faded again since, and recent reviews remain Mixed. While stuttering was a common complaint, veterans of the series have resisted other changes.
Particularly in Japan, players aren’t convinced by the benefits of a new open-world structure. They also criticize the simplistic combat and the lack of challenge that hunts usually offer. These are issues that a Switch 2 port may not address without major gameplay tweaks.
