When it comes to performance, the TCL QM8 (QM851G) mini LED TV is no understudy. The exact number of dimming zones is not known, but we do know that the smaller 65-inch variant sports 2,880 dimming zones as found out by RTINGS, whereas the gigantic 98-inch variant features around 5,000. Accordingly, the 85-inch variant should fall somewhere in between the two. RTINGS had the opportunity to review the 65-inch variant, and the results are impressive - truly dazzling peak brightness of 3,467 nits at a 10% window, excellent contrast ratios with minimal blooming, and great color accuracy out of the box.

People who like to enjoy video games on their television will be thrilled to learn that the QM8 sports a 144 Hz refresh rate, as well as perfectly decent response times. Its mini LED technology makes HDR gaming a true delight, almost matching the OLED experience without harboring the fear of panel burn-in and shelling out hundreds of dollars extra for a similarly sized OLED TV. However, the QM8 is not without a notable downside - its VA panel allows for poor viewing angles, which might be a major disappointment for those who like to enjoy their content in groups.

All said, for those who can live with the somewhat poor group viewing experience, the 85-inch TCL QM8 is an excellent television that sports stunning brightness levels along with all the hallmark benefits of mini LED technology.
