It might be true that for many people, the holiday shopping season is nearing its end. However, those who are yet to treat themselves, or others they care for, will be pleased to note that many of the gadgets that went on sale continue to be heavily discounted. The excellent 75-inch QM7 mini LED TV is certainly one such option, offering great value for its current all-time low price of $899 at Best Buy.
Thanks to the TV's mini LED panel with 1,248 dimming zones, the TCL QM7 boasts excellent contrast and black levels, which unsurprisingly amounts to a commendable HDR experience. One noteworthy aspect of mini LED panels, however, is their blooming pains. Luckily, that particular problem is handled rather well in the QM7, although bright objects in very dark scenes will nevertheless suffer from some amount of noticeable blooming.
Of course, OLEDs such as the substantially pricier LG C3 or the Samsung S90C will offer even better contrast ratios, viewing angles, and response times with no blooming whatsoever, but those come with far, far worse brightness as compared to the TCL QM7, which can get as bright as 1,500 nits sustained at a 10% window. Moreover, unlike TVs with OLED panels, those with mini LED panels do not have to constantly bear the fear of permanent panel burn-in, especially in desktop usage. So far, so good. However, there is a major downside to the TCL QM7 that we haven't addressed yet. Although the TV features an excellent color gamut, its pre-calibration accuracy is, simply put, awful. That said, the TV is quite easy to calibrate, and upon doing so, its color accuracy is right up there with the best. The QM7 is a solid choice for gamers as well, thanks to its relatively fast response times, extremely low input lag, and 144 Hz refresh rate. The viewing angles, being a VA panel, are not the best in class, so those planning to enjoy the TV with a group might be a tad disappointed. Apart from that, though, the 75-inch TCL QM7 leaves very little room for any meaningful critique.
