A Reddit user recently shared what might be the first photos of a brand-new Amazon e-reader. A label on the front indicates that the device is a prototype intended for the Latin American region. While this e-reader is tentatively known as the Kindle Petit Color, the final product branding has yet to be confirmed.
This model appears to have a slightly thicker bezel than the Kindle Colorsoft (priced at approx. $250 on Amazon), which may imply a more wallet-friendly price point. Although the prototype lacks a backlight, the final version is expected to include this feature. The Petit Color’s display reportedly produces significantly more saturated colors than the Kindle Colorsoft’s panel. Meanwhile, the intensity of colors can apparently be adjusted through software. Amazon is also said to have revamped the software to better utilize the color display.
For instance, this prototype allows users to customize the color of the battery, Wi-Fi and shop icons, while the text color of an e-book can automatically change based on reading progress to visually indicate when users have reached the end of a book. The Kindle Petit Color is expected to launch in fall 2025. As always, such leaks should be taken with caution, since the authenticity of the photos and prototype can’t be independently verified.
