Kobo Clara Colour arrives in white and with a larger battery capacity

When Rakuten announced the Kobo Clara Colour in April 2024, the color e-reader was available to buy in black. Now, the manufacturer has released it in a new color, which also has a larger battery capacity.

The Kobo Clara Colour is now available to buy in White, bringing the color options the 6-inch e-reader comes in to two. However, it is not just a new paint job as the new white version has a larger battery capacity, too. Unlike the black version which has a 1,500mAh battery capacity, the new white Kobo Clara Colour has a 1,900mAh battery.

While Rakuten says that the battery life is still about 42 days based on 30 minutes of reading per day, brightness set to 30%, and Wi-Fi and Bluetooth turned off, there should be a noticeable difference between the two colors. According to Good E-Reader, Rakuten chose to upgrade the battery due to running out of supply on the smaller battery capacity.

The new color option will be released on September 23 but is available to pre-order from Rakuten and Amazon for $159.99. This is the same price the black version sells for following a $10 increase earlier this year from its launch price of $149.99. Nevertheless, it is still cheaper than Amazon's Kindle Colorsoft which sells for $249.99.

The Kobo Clara Colour packs a 6-inch E Ink Kaleido 3 display with adjustable front light, 16GB of storage, and a dual-core 2.0GHz processor. For connectivity, users get dual-band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and a USB-C port. It also has an IPX8 water resistance rating which means it can survive immersion in water as well as spills.
