Amazon has just announced two new versions of the Kindle Colorsoft, including a new base model that halves the built-in flash storage to 16 GB and forgoes wireless charging, but costs $30 less. The Kids Edition is the same as the new base model but comes with a protective case, a 12-month Amazon Kids+ subscription and a two-year worry-free guarantee. The prices of all Kindle Colorsoft models are as follows:
- Kindle Colorsoft (16 GB) for $249.99
- Kindle Colorsoft Kids Edition for $269.99
- Kindle Colorsoft Signatue Edition for $279.99
Aside from smaller storage and the lack of wireless charging, all variants of the Kindle Colorsoft are identical in terms of features. The highlight is the 7-inch Colorsoft display, which, for the first time, can display not only grayscale but also color. This makes the Kindle Colorsoft ideal for reading comics and manga, but the colors are also useful for highlighting text passages.
The display has a front light whose color temperature can be adjusted from cool white to warm white for comfortable reading at all times of the day. Thanks to the energy-efficient E Ink panel, the Kindle Colorsoft is said to achieve a battery life of up to eight weeks. Measuring 17.6 x 12.7 x 0.78 centimeters and weighing 215 grams, the e-reader is waterproof and only slightly larger than a smartphone.
