Amazon is kicking off 2026 with solid discounts on its Kindle lineup. The Kindle Colorsoft falls to $199.99, while the entry-level Kindle is seeing a price cut to $89.99.

If your 2026 resolution includes spending more time between pages, a Kindle is a worthy companion to have at your disposal to help you meet that goal. Its E Ink display offers superior readability to any fancy OLED or Mini LED your phone or tablet might have, while providing you with that distraction-free space devoid of incessant app notifications battling for your attention.

Right now, Amazon is offering an excellent opportunity to get into the world of e-readers. The company has slashed the price of its color e-reader, with the 16GB Kindle Colorsoft currently on sale for $200, down from its usual $250 price. While we have seen this model go for as low as $170 — and $190 during the massive Black Friday and holiday sales—this is still a pretty good deal, as it is unlikely we will see this model return to that all-time low anytime soon.

If you have owned several Kindles and want to try out something unique, or if you have a good collection of comics and graphic novels, the Kindle Colorsoft is a great choice. Its 7-inch, glare-free color E Ink screen makes cover art and illustrations pop in a way that monochrome displays simply can't, while still retaining the paper-like comfort E Ink is known for. It also offers many of the premium perks found on the higher-end Kindles, such as an adjustable warm light and IPX8 water resistance.

The entry-level Kindle is also on sale

For those on a tighter budget, the base Kindle is currently down to just $90, a good $20 off its normal retail price of $110. The entry-level Kindle is the cheapest and most compact in the Kindle lineup, serving as a good entry point for first-time buyers and those who primarily read black-and-white ebooks. The updated version still packs a 6-inch E Ink display, but Amazon says it now comes with a 25% brighter front light and a higher contrast ratio for crisper text.

That said, this model doesn't offer a warm, amber light for nighttime reading, so that's something to keep in mind if you prefer to read mostly at bedtime. It also misses out on IPX8 water resistance. However, if you want an e-reader that delivers all the essentials and fits in your pocket for under $100, this one is tough to beat.
