The Moaan InkPalm Mini Plus 2 has launched in China as a pocket-sized, affordable e-reader. This Amazon Kindle competitor features a 5.84-inch e-ink display with support for 256 levels of grayscale and 32 levels of "cool and warm" light adjustment.
Under the hood, the InkPalm Mini Plus 2 packs the Rockchip RK3566, which is the same SoC that's found in many SBCs and retro gaming handhelds. This is somewhat of an overkill processor for the e-reader, but it's worth noting that the device runs on Android, which is a major plus over Amazon's Kindle.
To fill you in, as the Mini Plus 2 runs on Android 14, users won't be locked down to ecosystems. Another notable highlight of this affordable e-reader is that it features 512 GB of onboard storage, offering the freedom to store an extensive collection of eBooks.
A 2,250 mAh battery powers the internals of this phone-shaped eBook reader, which is said to offer up to 2 weeks of runtime, and it charges via USB-C (2-pack Anker 3-feet 60 W Type-C cable curr. $5.99 on Amazon). As for the design, Xiaomi notes that the ereader has a high screen-to-body ratio, and with rounded corners and a weight of 140 grams, it's said to fit naturally in the hands.
There are side function keys, which allow easy navigation through eBooks, and the ereader has support for dual-band WiFi and features 6 GB of RAM. The Moaan InkPalm Mini Plus 2 launched in China at CNY 1,399, around $196. While Xiaomi hasn't confirmed a global launch yet, third-party stores such as GoodEReader tend to unofficially bring these e-ink tablets to the international market.
