Xiaomi is expected to release successors to the Pad 7 and Pad 7 Pro (curr. $679 on Amazon) later this month in China. While it is unclear when the Pad 8 or Pad 8 Pro will be available globally, the Chinese version of the latter has now turned up on Geekbench, full details of which we have covered separately. However, it seems that Xiaomi still has multiple Redmi-branded tablets up its sleeve too.
To recap, Digital Chat Station speculated last month that Xiaomi was developing a Redmi Pad 2 Pro as a more premium alternative to the Redmi Pad 2 that launched in June. Shortly afterwards, evidence emerged pointing to Xiaomi using the same Qualcomm Snapdragon 7s Gen 4 chipset as the Redmi Note 15 Pro Plus.
While the Snapdragon 7s Gen 4 is effectively an overclocked Snapdragon 7s Gen 3, this would still see the Redmi Pad 2 Pro outperforming its predecessor by a wide margin. Now, Xiaomi has been spotted certifying the 2509BRP2DG across Singapore and the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Based on prior IMEI database results, the 2509BRP2DG is not the regular Redmi Pad 2 Pro.
Instead, the 2509BRP2DG is said to be the tablet's dedicated 5G variant that Xiaomi will likely sell as a distinct model called the Redmi Pad 2 Pro 5G, just like the Redmi Pad Pro 5G before it. Moreover, other recent evidence suggests that Xiaomi plans to sell both Redmi Pad 2 Pro tablets with an optional keyboard accessory. Unfortunately, it remains to be seen when either the Redmi Pad 2 Pro or Redmi Pad 2 Pro 5G will receive a global launch.
