Xiaomi has now officially revealed its next Redmi-branded tablet after releasing the Redmi Pad 2 earlier this year (curr. $184 on Amazon). As various leaks and rumours suggested, Xiaomi has decided to call its next Redmi tablet the Redmi Pad 2 Pro, rather than the Redmi Pad Pro 2 as a direct replacement for last year's model.
As company representatives discuss in the video below, the Redmi Pad 2 Pro will receive a full global launch on September 24 alongside numerous other devices like the Xiaomi 15T, Xiaomi 15T Pro and the Watch S4 41 mm. In the meantime, Xiaomi has teased a few details about the Redmi Pad 2 Pro like its 12.1-inch, 2.5K and 120 Hz display.
On the face of it, these specifications imply that Xiaomi is re-using the display from last year's Redmi Pad Pro, an IPS panel that also delivers 600 nits peak brightness. The Redmi Pad 2 Pro features a 25% larger battery though, which now totals 12,000 mAh. Unfortunately, wired charging wattages have dropped from 33 W to 27 W between the Redmi Pad Pro and Redmi Pad 2 Pro.
The Redmi Smart Pen returns, as does a detachable keyboard that lacks a built-in trackpad. Similarly, the Redmi Pad 2 Pro contains a single rear-facing camera just like the Redmi Pad Pro before it. Based on recent leaks, Xiaomi plans to sell the Redmi Pad 2 Pro with and without 5G connectivity, all powered by Qualcomm's recent Snapdragon 7s Gen 4 chipset.
