Huawei has refreshed the MatePad 12 X globally, a year to the day after its previous release. Referred to as the MatePad 12 X 2025 or MatePad 12 X for short, this year's model is the spitting image of last year's with the same Greenery and White colour options.
Likewise, the MatePad 12 X 2025 retains the same 270 x 183 x 5.9 mm dimensions and 555 g official weight as its predecessor, which makes it about the same size as Samsung's Galaxy Tab S10 Plus (curr. $699.99 - renewed on Amazon). Moreover, the 12-inch, 2.8K and 1,000-nit display from last year's model remains untouched, as does its 10,100 mAh battery.
Huawei distinguishes this year's model from last year's in a few areas, though. For instance, the MatePad 12 X 2025 switches from a 13 MP to a 50 MP primary camera, albeit with the same 8 MP front-facing camera and lacking the 8 MP ultra-wide-angle camera found in its predecessor.
Seemingly, Huawei has upgraded the tablet's USB Type-C port to USB 3.1 Gen 1 speeds, although the six-speaker set-up, 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage from the 2024 edition remain. Also, Huawei now pre-installs HarmonyOS 4.3 rather than HarmonyOS 4.2. Unfortunately, it is unclear at this stage whether Huawei has moved the MatePad 12 X on from the Kirin 910A chipset used in the original model.
These changes culminate in a £599.99 launch price with a detachable keyboard and a complimentary active stylus included. While competitive among large Android tablets, the MatePad 12 X 2025 is 9% more expensive than its predecessor with no charger included this year either.
