In our review of the Huawei MatePad 12 X (2025) the tablet impressed us with its good overall package. It offers a bright, flicker-free LC display that also features a matte PaperMatte surface. This means that reflections are practically a thing of the past, and pen input on the surface also feels more natural.
The new Huawei M-Pencil Pro is recommended as an input pen. Thanks to its integrated NearLink wireless technology, it has low latency and can distinguish between over 10,000 pressure levels. It also supports haptic feedback, different pen tips and an illuminated button on the opposite side of the tip. With three different tips, it is optimally prepared for every scenario and proved itself to be a first-class stylus in our test, with even the Apple Pencil or Samsung S Pen unable to match its writing feel.
However the pen is not exactly cheap. But if you purchase the tablet from the Huawei Store, you currently get it for free, including a warranty extension to 36 months for the MatePad 12 X.
With a height of just 5.9 mm and weighing 555 g, the Huawei tablet is ideal for use on the go, even though it does not offer a mobile phone option. Its everyday performance is good, and it features modern interfaces such as Wi-Fi 7 and USB 3.2. Bluetooth 5.2, on the other hand, seems a little outdated, and 6 GHz Wi-Fi is also not available. The included keyboard is good, but doesn't leave as high-quality an impression as those of the Pro models, and the display is not optimally calibrated for professional use.
Nevertheless, with the MatePad 12 X, Huawei offers a powerful creative tablet that can easily compete with both the iPad and iPad Air.
