After a tease earlier this week, Onyx has finally announced the Boox P6 Pro series. Available in two versions — one with a Carta 1300 E Ink display and a second that sports has a Kaleido 3 Color E Ink display, both devices are expected to also get a global release under the Boox Palma line.
The new devices are called the P6 Pro Little White Horse and P6 Pro Little Colored Horse, but for the sake of clarity, we will refer to them as the P6 Pro and the P6 Pro Color.
When compared to the Boox Palma 2, the Boox P6 Pro has a few design changes. For starters, there's now a square camera island on the back instead of a thin rectangular one. The volume button has also moved to the left side of the device and now sits below a new physical button called the Smart Key. However, it still has thick bezels and a textured back for better grip. It is available in Black and White color options.
The Boox P6 Pro still has a 6.13-inch 1684 × 824 resolution (300 ppi) display covered with etched glass to reduce glare, but it is now a Carta 1300 display which has a faster refresh rate and a higher contrast ratio than the Carta 1200 of the Boox Palma 2 (curr. available on Amazon for $269.99).
The Boox P6 Pro, on the other hand, also has a 6.13-inch display but a Kaleido 3 Color display with a 300 ppi for Black and White and a 150 ppi for color. It also has stylus support which lets users take notes and annotate documents. Both devices have an adjustable front light, and users can switch between cold and warm light depending on the time of the day.
The Boox P6 Pro series is powered by an unspecified Qualcomm processor with eight cores. However, while the Boox P6 Pro has 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage, the Boox P6 Pro Color has 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. They also both have a 16MP camera with LED flash for scanning documents and codes.
The biggest upgrade of the Boox P6 Pro series is the addition of SIM support. The device now has a SIM slot with support for 5G, allowing users to connect to the internet when on the go or when there's no Wi-Fi network available. The SIM card tray also doubles as the MicroSD card tray.
The rest of the specs include dual-band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.0, dual speakers, dual microphones, a 3,950mAh battery capacity, and support for 15W charging. Both devices ship with Boox OS 4.1 based on Android 13.
The Boox P6 Pro is priced at CNY 2799 (~$393/€339) while the Boox P6 Pro Color has a price tag of CNY 3299 (~$463/€399). However, Onyx seems to be offering a launch discount that brings the prices down to CNY 2516 (~$353/€304) and CNY 2991 (~$420/362) respectively.
Even with the discount, the Boox P6 Pro Color is still more expensive than the $399 Bigme HiBreak Pro Color which doesn't have stylus support but also has 5G (dual SIM support), 256GB of storage, a larger 4,500mAh battery capacity with 18W fast charging, NFC, a fingerprint scanner, and ships with Android 14.
