Santek introduces mobile E Ink display with 3.4mm thickness at a low price

Supporters can secure an EInk screen with very compact dimensions via Kickstarter in the form of Santek EZ Sign Gen 2 NFC. Specifically, it is specified as only 3.4 millimeters thick, with the weight varying depending on the model: the display with a screen diagonal of 2.9 inches weighs 13 grams, while the 4.2-inch version weighs 29 grams. The smaller model is priced $14, while the larger version also has the same price. Users should inform themselves well in advance about shipping rates and possible import fees, as well as the financial risks typical of crowdfunding campaigns.

Available in two model variants

Each size also comes in two further sub-variants, specifically those that can display two or four colors. The four-color variants require 25 seconds for an image update, compared to approximately 3 seconds for the larger model. The 2.9-inch model has a resolution of 296 x 128, while the larger model has a resolution of 400 x 300. The system does not require a constant power supply, nor does it need a battery. Instead, the screens only need power when the image is updated, which, like data transmission, is done via NFC.

Suitable for outdoor use

A wide variety of applications are advertised. For example, prices can be displayed in a store, and its use as a smart name badge is also conceivable. According to the manufacturer, the color version can be used in temperatures between 0 and 40 °C and is IP65 rated.
