Portable 4K display with keyboard: Laptop base for Windows and iOS launches with discount

As part of a crowdfunding campaign, the now somewhat established manufacturer VitaLink is currently funding a combination of a display and keyboard. The system looks like a very compact laptop and could potentially serve as a base for such.
It lacks an SoC, so this display and keyboard combination depends on a separate source device. It is said to be compatible with various devices, including Windows systems, smartphones, and iOS devices. The connection is made via USB Type-C, although the source device must of course also support video output. That is not always the case with smartphones, for example.
The display measures 13 inches diagonally and has a resolution of 3,840 x 1,600 pixels, which results in a rather unusual 2.4:1 aspect ratio. The refresh rate is listed at 60Hz, which is not especially high. The panel is said to fully cover the sRGB color space. It is a touchscreen that can register up to 10 simultaneous inputs, which means gesture controls are also possible in principle. The keyboard uses scissor switches. For an extra $20, the model is also available with different keyboard layouts. At no extra cost, it otherwise comes with the regular QWERTY US layout for Windows. The system weighs 2.6 lb and always includes speakers.
As part of the crowdfunding campaign, which carries a meaningful financial risk for backers, one unit is available for about $280. The projected delivery date is September 2026. Additional shipping fees may apply, although no further import duties are expected to apply for European customers.
