MediaTek's alternative to the Apple A19 Pro and upcoming Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 Elite is now here after the release of the Dimensity 9400 Plus this spring. While the Dimensity 9400 Plus builds on the Dimensity 9400, found in the Galaxy Tab S11 (curr. $859.99 on Amazon) and other recent high-end devices, the Dimensity 9500 is the first MediaTek chipset to adopt ARM's v9.3 architecture with TSMC N3P nodes.
In other words, the Dimensity 9500 is the first outing for Lumex CPU cores and the Mali-G1 Ultra GPU, which ARM announced earlier this month. Specifically, MediaTek has complemented ARM's new 12-core GPU with a single C1-Ultra CPU core clocked at 4.21 GHz, three C1-Premium cores running at 3.5 GHz and four C1-Pro cores restricted to 2.7 GHz.
Officially, the Dimensity 9500 should outperform its predecessor by 32% in single-threaded tasks and around 16% in multi-threaded workloads. Moreover, the Mali G1-Ultra is said to deliver a 33% GPU performance boost with 119% faster ray tracing to boot. Nonetheless, MediaTek claims that the Dimensity 9500 works 37% more efficiently under CPU load and 42% in GPU-heavy applications.
Additionally, the Dimensity 9500 features other upgrades from the Dimensity 9400, like UFS 4.1 storage support, an NPU 990 and MediaTek's Imagiq 1190 imaging engine. The Dimensity 9500 will make its way into the upcoming Oppo Find X9 and Vivo X300, as well as their respective Pro models. Currently, these four smartphones are set to launch in mid-October with global availability confirmed for the Find X9 series too.
